Comments:
"Previously, this was the Conservative Club and had 2 traditional floors. After it's reburbishment in (approx) 1997 it re-opened as The Varisity still with 2 floors, yet the upper floor only covers 50% of the original area with the remainder allowing for the lower floor to have double-height.

The original cellar area at the front was a separate room, but after the 2003 refurbishment (as The Academy) the room has been covered over so the lower floor is all one level, and the platform above that cellar is raised even higher. The bare walls and painted girders give this place a basic look and feel, which contrasts with the comfy-looking sofas.

This was the Conservative Club until it was refurbished and became The Varsity in approx 1997.
